Antique Civil War era brass fleam once used for bloodletting in either veterinary or human use. It's likely a tool like this was used on a farm and may have been utilised for both purposes.

The triangular tip of the blade would be held over the vein of the patient and then the flat side would be hit with a fleam stick to draw the blood without causing too much extra injury.

Maker: Stamped Johnson Western Works.

Condition: This example has a brass handle and does exhibit some signs of age, including some rust on the blades.
