This adjustable mechanical vibrator was manufactured by the English ‘Veedee’ Company, London around 1910. Mechanical vibrators such as these were essentially "massaging devices" which could be easily used from home. Rather than use electricity to power the heads the vibrator was hand cranked before placement on the skin. It is good example of an early mechanical therapeutic device which was marketed from the 1890s to the middle of the twentieth century. Before this, doctors had to use their hands to treat "hysteria".
Condition: This vibrator has seen better days, that's for sure. The rubber 'ball' end has collapsed, the handle is gnarled and the crank mechanism no longer works. It does however make an excellent display piece.
