Antique Victorian Rosy-Cheeked Baby Tintype in Leatherette Case
A rare example of a framed tintype where the complete case is still together. This sweet baby sits in an embossed leatherette case with flocked velvet lining. A touch of rosy pink blush has been added to the cheeks. This is a wonderful example of the 'hidden mother' phenomenon in Victorian portrait photography. The baby sits atop the mother, who is concealed by a cloth draped over her. This was the only way they could get a good photo of babies!
This piece really is in excellent condition.
Measures 7.5cm x 6cm xc 1cm when closed and fastened.
