British Made Chloroform Drop Bottle & Case c.1930s

British Made Chloroform Drop Bottle & Case c.1930s

Chloroform was used as an anaesthetic to stop the patient feeling pain during surgery. It was administered by inhalation – a few drops were put on a cloth covering the patient’s nose. Chloroform degrades when exposed to light, so it was commonly stored in amber bottles. The chloroform in these bottles was further protected from light by the paperboard tube packaging.

There are two bottles available, with the difference only in the outer packaging. #1 has clear 'chloroform drop bottle' labelling, where #2 has no label. Each bottle is much the same.
