Victorian Brass Devotional Crucifix c.1800s

This freestanding, Victorian era altar crucifix is one of my favourite pieces ever to pass through the shop.  It's beautifully aged and made of solid brass. You can tell it has been well loved. 

This devotional crucifix has a coveted feature, the presence of a skull and crossbones beneath the corpus (the depiction of Jesus' body), in reference to a legend that the place of the crucifixion was also the burial place of Adam or, more likely, in reference to the New Testament statement that the place of his crucifixion was called "Golgotha" ("the Place of a Skull").

It stands 38cm tall, and measures around 15cm across at the widest point.
